The Board of Trustees of the Voorheesville Public Library recognizes and supports the importance of access to electronic information. The Board endorses the Library Bill of Rights and the Freedom to Read and Freedom to View statements of the American Library Association and extends these principles to electronic information.

The library does not warrant information found on the Internet to be accurate, authoritative, factual, timely or useful. Users should be aware that some material available on the Internet may be defamatory, libelous or potentially offensive. It a person believes that information obtained via library terminals is inaccurate or offensive, they should contact the original producer or distributor of the information.

Parents or legal guardians are responsible for deciding what library materials and resources are appropriate for their minor children. As with other library resources, supervision or restriction of a child's access to the Internet is the responsibility of the parent or legal guardian.

Rules Governing Internet Use

Anyone 8 years or older with a library card valid at the Voorheesville Public Library may receive an Internet validation sticker by reading and signing this policy statement. Users 8-14 years old must also have a parent or legal guardian sign the policy.

A validated user may bring one guest to use the Internet workstation, however, the validated user is responsible for the guest's actions.

The library will restrict the amount of time a patron can use the Internet workstation.

The library is not responsible for technical difficulties which may occur.

Internet training is NOT provided. Reference librarians will assist users as time permits but do not and cannot have complete knowledge of Internet content and may not be familiar with sites users access or wish to access.

There will be a charge to print material which will be posted at the workstation.

Users may not:

Download files to the library computer's hard drive.
Invade the privacy of other library users.
Make any attempt to damage computer equipment or software.
Engage in any activity that is harassing or defamatory.
Use the Internet for any illegal activity, including violation of copyright laws.
Distribute unsolicited advertising.
Install or download software at the library workstation.
Bookmark sites.
Use terminals for any illegal or criminal purpose, including but not limited to, violation of computer system security, unauthorized use of computer accounts or access codes.
Use the Internet in any manner that is disruptive to other patrons.

Violation of any of the above Policies may result in loss of computer and Internet Privileges
